Randall Kennedy: How about some new music?

I want to hear new music. Am I alone? Yes, what goes around comes around and given that in all of music the basic notes are the same, it all comes down to the actual implementation. Do we rip off Horace Silver or Funkadelic or Bob James? This isn’t an indictment against retro’s heyday (again) in any respect – hell – I just bought a turntable – but at what point does the past become viable inspiration as opposed to just source data? The basic aphorism that the Beatles, Led Zeppelin enjoy rebirth in each generation is true and is a good thing. Will jazz learn, burn or become a textbook at Rutgers? I don’t know but I want to hear new music and I’m pretty sure I won’t get it from radio, MySpace or TV. Text me a tune, Lad.
