Brad Mehldau & Jon Brion (again)

In 2009, Pianist Brad Mehldau and producer Jon Brion reunited for their second collaborative work. Composed by Mehldau, Highway Rider includes beautiful melodies, rich layers of ensemble playing and clever orchestrations. Like its critically acclaimed predecessor Largo, the music is impressive and the perfect melodic terrain to showcase Mehldau’s unmistakable talent. Brad’s long standing trio members – bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Ballard are featured along with a host of great musicians that include saxophonist Joshua Redman and drummer Matt Camberlin. Watch Brad and Jon discuss Highway Rider below.

Flashback to 2001 to view the Jazz Online produced video of Brad Mehldau sharing his impressions of his first collaboration with producer & musician Jon Brion and the music of Largo. Shot in Oakland, CA at Yoshi’s shortly after the completion of the recording.
