The Traneumentary: Dave Liebman (commentary)

dave_liebman

As we heard on saxophonist Dave Liebman’s first Traneumentary podcast episode, his passion for John Coltrane is intense, inspiring and endless. Here, Dave not only comments on one of his all-time favorite John Coltrane Quartet tracks “Crescent” (from 1964) but also provides a wealth of other information about Trane and the members of his famous quartet – McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones.

Thank you Dave, as you’ve described my feelings and thoughts about my two favorite Trane tracks…..Crescent and Wise One. The Coltrane Quartet at it’s magnificent peak and captured in the optimum studio conditions. The only other track that comes close to the purity of these two compositions is the Quartet’s version of Out of This World from April 1962.
